Project Prod is a first-person educational caving simulator that offers players a unique and immersive experience. The game is set in a realistic cave environment, where players are tasked with navigating through a series of challenging caverns and completing puzzles that are caving-related. The main focus of the game is to provide players with an educational experience, as the game includes a variety of educational snippets that teach players about the sport of caving and the unique features of caves.
The game is being created as a programming assignment and is due for completion by the end of the school year in 2023. The game has been carefully designed to be engaging, providing players with a sense of accomplishment as they progress through the game. The game features a torch mechanic that requires players to keep their light source charged, adding an extra level of realism and challenge to the game, more mechanics like this one will be added throughout the development.
Players will be able to explore a variety of different shaped passages, each with its own unique set of obstacles, such as crawls and squeezes for the player to navigate. The game also includes realistic cave graphics which makes the game feel even more realistic and immersive.
Project Prod is not only a game but a learning tool for anyone interested in caving or exploring the underground world. It's a unique way to learn about the caving sport and the caves while having fun. The game will allow players to gain knowledge and skills in a fun and interactive way, providing a unique and engaging learning experience.
"Project Prod" is a placeholder name, Prods pot is the first cave I did with ropes and I have many fond memories from it, and I want this game to invoke a similar love for caving as the cave did for me.
so now I have finished the project for the programming module of my course, and I can say I've learnt a lot, especially about feature creep and expectations when there is someone else dictating features that must be in your game.
I'm not going to change the opening description as it reflects the image I had for this game. But as you can expect from most projects, there were hurdles, I learned that feature creep is a thing even when you think you planned it all out.
This year was a tough one, I had many ongoing projects, in and out of game design. this caused many unforeseen delays in this, and most other ongoing projects. I'm still happy with what I achieved as it did do what I set out to do, be an introduction to the world and sport of caving.
Seeing as it was a programming assignment I will upload all my scripts as they are in Unity here.
