I submitted Root Hacker to the Global Game Jam 2023, which I developed over the course of January 30th to February 5th.
Root Hacker is an exciting and challenging 2.5D puzzle game that requires players to use their problem-solving skills to succeed. As the player, you are tasked with hacking into a computer server and making your way to the Root in order to extract valuable information.
The gameplay involves dragging and placing commands onto a board, which then commands your bots to complete specific tasks. However, the system is guarded and the further you progress, the more challenges you will encounter. This means that you must use your wits and strategy to overcome the puzzles and outmanoeuvre enemy bots that have been deployed by the server's owner to stop you.
As you play through the levels, you will need to think creatively and use all of your hacking skills in order to make it to the Root and complete your mission.
Working on Root Hacker was a valuable experience, as I had the opportunity to work independently on every aspect of the project, from the design to the art and music. This was my first time utilizing Blender fully, which was a challenge in itself.
The process of developing Root Hacker was a challenging yet rewarding journey. I had to overcome various obstacles, such as technical difficulties and artistic limitations, but through perseverance and determination, I was able to bring my vision to life.
I am eager to share my experience with others, and I plan on releasing a development log about the game on my YouTube channel. This will allow me to showcase the journey of creating Root Hacker.
Root Hacker is now available for play on my itch.io page, which is linked on the side.
