This week I focused on my dissertation, getting the outline and plan in, as well as meeting up with my supervisor! What does this have to do with Next Day?
Well I'm doing it on
"WHO SUCCEEDS, WHO FAILS, WHO SUCCESSFULLY FAILS AND WHY? A STUDY ON BOARD GAME KICKSTARTERS."
This is going to help with my project as I wish to launch the game on Kickstarter by the end of it. I want to set out a marketing plan ahead of launch, and as I develop the game, this will help me prioritise what I need to develop in the game, especially coming up to launch day.
I prepared my outline and plan, this is a guide for myself to follow so that I can set my goals and deadlines, the first few weeks will be focused on research for the dissertation, and then after that, it will be gathering my own data, and finding out why some Kickstarters are failing and why some are succeeding.
Following my summary from last week, I've also decided on a few changes for the game. The map will now be made up of a hexagonal grid, cause hexagons are the bestagons!
this means that movement on the map is more varied and allows a lot more choice for the player, but also means I can have a more interesting-looking map. I've just got to decide on how the player will move on the board, I don't want it to be a meaningless decision, I want each goes that the player moves the van to be different, one turn it might be simple:
"I'll head towards the objective"
but the next go it should go a completely different direction:
"ok I can't go this way because of X reason, so I'm going to head here"
the plan is to get a playable prototype, and thankfully I've finished up with work this week, so college is going to become my full-time focus!
I really need to figure out movement in the game though, and how to make it more interesting. this means I need meaningful decision-making.
