players 1-4: 10yo
time :
15 mins
results:
P1 = 64
P2 = 30
P3 = 51
P4 = 48
notes during testing:
-P1, placed eggs beside the tile and was the first person to place an egg.
-P3, didn't wait for their turn to go (too excited to wait)
-P2 focused on tiles worth 4 more at the start.
-P1 placing nest backwards (tiles facing out)
-P2 successfully placed cuckoo on their objective!
-This is how they placed their nests in the order of P1, P3, P4, P2
3/4 said yes to playing again immediately one said they would rather play a new game, but they still loved it and didn't oppose playing it a second time.
players 1-4: 10yo
time :
20 mins
results:
P1 = 54
P2 = 35
P3 = 61
P4 = 50
notes during testing:
Fighting over colours at the start.
-P3 not going for objective, targeting P1 instead
-P2 targeting P1 as well
-P3 playing Antisocial
-Others caught on and started targeting him.
-P1 asks if they all agree if the math is good on the tile.
-P3 won 3 tiles in one go
-P1 won 3 tiles in one go in the next round as well.
-P3 has one tile to go for his nest, and no one is betting on his tiles, they won 2 tiles with 0 contest.
players 1-4: 9-10yo
time :
19 mins
results:
P1 = 22
P2 = 40
P3 = 35
P4 = 29
notes during testing:
-First round they understood that they could annoy each other by betting on each other's tiles.
-P4 not keeping track of their go (not concentrating on the game)
-P4, no one noticed their bets so they won 2 tiles with no competition.
-P3, struggling to build tiles.
-P2 placing cuckoo in revenge for P1 placing cuckoo on them (against objective)
-P3 bluffing well, then had some banter about it after.
-Ignored 2 tiles until the end of the game just because they preferred annoying each other.
-It gets hectic when counting tiles, and players lose track of which tiles are won, leading to confusion and random grabbing of tiles, in this case, they picked up the right tiles but a player had one too many eggs in their nest.
3/4 said yes to playing again immediately one said they would rather play a new game, but they still loved it and didn't oppose playing it a second time again.
players 1-4: 9-10yo
time :
15 mins
results:
P1 = 61
P2 = 52
P3 = 40
P4 = 34
notes during testing:
-Making bird noises and having general banter, but all while still concentrating on and playing the game!
-Players bet on only 3 / 5 tiles but in the last round, they placed bets on the empty tiles to get them.
-Math is an issue, kids are struggling to first add the eggs, then the tiles, add the result, count objectives, and add result again.
The game loop has greatly improved since the last playtest, the main change was to the flow of the game since the last time. we made it so that players put eggs under their pile instead of having a discard pile, and it showed straight away here that that didn't cause issues, players barely had to focus on what to do with discarded eggs, and this cleaned up the playing area and we didn't have the same issues as last time.
This time we had no player that didn't want to play again, although we had two players that didn't want to play straight away, they were still happy and excited when the next round started.
kids all around loved the box art of the game, saying:
"Trop trop bien"
they could also tell what the game was about with the current box, linking what they played to the elements and characters on the box.
Kids understood the game a lot better and quicker, and kids getting stuck, de-concentrated, bored, confused and frustrated compared to the last time, the game has definitely moved forward.
May be worth revising the objectives as that is where the kids got blocked the most while counting, at least it was at the end
