This week I shifted focus onto Faites Vos Oeufs, I decided to test some games with no changes to the rules, and immediately I saw an issue with the objectives. at this point of the game, the objectives mean very little, they offer a few more points, but the reward is not worth the risk if someone challenges them on their objective. I decided to readjust the values for the points so that they were worth it, now instead of the player gaining a total of 11 points when completing their objectives, they gained 20, this is a lot more in this game. this didn't change the balance too much either, as now there was more incentive and therefore competition in the game. Igor agreed with my changes and we printed new objective cards for the players.
for the ESCAPE, I made progress on the prototype for the tool and also started an InDesign project so that I could block out the game on paper, and start placing things to scale on pages. this allowed me to keep track of the game a lot better and is also developing my skills in Indesign. I started to make minigames to complement my story and make some concept art for what would appear, this will help the graphic designers on the team and also the illustrators when we started to cement the art style.
Lastly this week I brainstormed with Igor about Faites Vos Oeufs, currently, the game is not very balanced and isn't fun if you wish to play differently to the objective, which we don't want, we expect kids and people to play the game in a different range of ways, and they should not be punished for that. currently, we don't have a way to test the balance of the game, so I suggested that I make a unity build of the game in order to test the game hundreds of times a day using bots, this will allow us to see if there are balancing issues with the game. but I also made sure to note the dangers of this, if we focus too much on the statistics the digital version produces, we may forget that we are designing for fun and education primarily, we must keep our goals in mind at all times.
this work took up the bulk of the week, and I had some more meetings with people from around the office to top it all off.
